Dear HMMS Teaching and Learning Community,

Outline of two blue exclamation points with black drop-shadows

We are sorry to be contacting you under these circumstances and right as the excitement of the school year is gaining momentum, but we know it is important to let you know when something happens in our community that will have impact on us all.

Yesterday evening, Friday, August 14, some individuals gained entry into HMMS and walked through the school while engaging in extensive vandalism. While there was no structural damage, they set off fire extinguishers, damaged individual items, and the resultant mess is considerable and will involve deep cleaning before the start of the year.

We are exceedingly grateful and appreciative of the Hartford Police Department, who we are working closely with and were on the scene quickly when the alarms were triggered; we are also collaborating with our insurance carrier, who we will work with to replace damaged items.

If anyone in the community has any relevant information to share with us in relation to this event, please contact Principal Cody TanCreti (tancretic@hartfordschools.net), Assistant Principal Emily Marshia (marshiae@hartfordschools.net) , Superintendent Caty Sutton (suttonc@hartfordschools.net), and/or Assistant Superintendent Aron Tomlinson (tomlinsona@hartforschools.net).

Needless to say, this is incredibly disappointing and disheartening, and we are sorry to deliver this news to you today. We can assure you that we are taking all of the steps necessary to ensure that our HMMS students will have a smooth and joyful start to the school year.

Please take good care, and we will share additional information with you if necessary and helpful.

Caty Sutton

Superintendent
